16. Yarn-Wrapped Cardboard Pumpkins

16

Yarn-wrapping is an excellent quiet-time activity that helps young children develop hand-eye coordination and fine motor strength. Cut pumpkin shapes out of thick, sturdy cardboard from shipping boxes. Cut small notches around the edges of the pumpkin shape to help hold the yarn in place. Secure the end of a skein of orange yarn to the back with tape, and let your child wrap the yarn around and around the cardboard pumpkin in every direction until it is fully covered. Once complete, tuck the end of the yarn safely underneath. Glue a green pipe cleaner or a real twig to the top for a rustic stem, and add a felt leaf to finish this cozy, textured autumn decoration.
