8. Gothic Fireplace Mantel Coals
Create the illusion of a smoldering, ancient gothic fireplace hearth without any actual heat or fire hazard. By slicing pool noodles and combining them with LED lights, you can create a glowing bed of coals that looks incredibly realistic and adds a cozy, haunted castle ambiance to your living room.
Cut black, grey, or painted pool noodles into small, irregular chunks to resemble burnt logs and charcoal. Arrange them in a shallow decorative metal bin or inside your actual fireplace grate. Interweave a strand of orange and red LED Christmas lights throughout the pile of noodle “coals.” To enhance the realism, spray some of the noodle pieces with textured stone paint and highlight the edges with ash-grey paint. When you plug in the lights, the orange glow will filter through the gaps and reflect off the textured foam, creating a mesmerizing, flickering ember effect that is perfect for a cozy Halloween night in.
