6. Realistic Faux Birch Wood Logs
Not all Halloween decor has to be scary; some of the best projects evoke a cozy, rustic, and slightly eerie autumnal forest vibe. You can create incredibly realistic birch logs using grey or white pool noodles. These are perfect for filling an unused fireplace, stacking on your front porch, or using as pedestals for other spooky decorations like ravens and skulls.
Cut your noodles into varying lengths, mimicking natural logs. Cover them in a base coat of matte white chalk paint or plaster of Paris for a textured, organic feel. Once dry, use a dry brush technique with dark grey and black acrylic paint to draw the characteristic horizontal lenticels and knot-holes found on birch bark. To make the ends look like cut wood, glue a circle of light brown craft foam or cardboard to the ends of the noodles, drawing concentric growth rings with a brown marker. Stack them together and tie them with a piece of rustic jute twine for an elegant, woodland-inspired display.
