This clever DIY decoration plays on the classic gothic trope of haunted mirrors, using frosted glass window film or sheer vellum paper to create a faint, blurred silhouette that is only visible upon close inspection. When guests look at their reflection, they will be startled to see a pale, weeping figure or a skeletal hand reaching out from the silvered glass behind them. It is a sophisticated, psychological scare that relies on nuance rather than gore.
To achieve this haunting effect, find a high-resolution, black-and-white image of a vintage ghost, Victorian lady, or creepy silhouette. Print the image onto translucent vellum paper or clear overhead projector sheets. Carefully remove the back panel of a framed mirror, exposing the rear side of the glass.
