13. Illuminated Skull Candelabra
Create a dramatic, gothic centerpiece for your dining table with an illuminated skull candelabra. This project combines anatomical elements with classic candlelight, resulting in a striking, tall display that looks like it belongs in a vampire’s grand dining hall. By stacking realistic plastic skulls and crowning them with a cluster of dripping candles, you can create a gorgeous focal point that balances horror and high-end design, casting a flickering, warm glow over your Halloween feast.
To build this candelabra, you will need a sturdy wooden or metal base (such as an old candlestick or a wooden plaque), a central support dowel, three to four life-sized plastic skulls, and a few taper candle holders. Drill a hole through the top and bottom of each plastic skull, threading them onto the central dowel to create a stacked column. Secure the skulls together and to the base using heavy-duty construction adhesive or hot glue, angling them in slightly different directions for visual interest. Paint the entire structure with a matte black, antique bronze, or bone-white finish, using dark wax or a black paint wash to highlight the skeletal details of the eye sockets and teeth. Glue candle cups to the top skull and insert battery-operated, flickering LED taper candles, wrapping the bases in hot glue to mimic the look of heavily melted wax.
