8. Gothic Velvet Pumpkin Centerpieces

8

Velvet has long been associated with the rich, dramatic textures of Victorian home decor. You can easily craft your own luxurious, vintage-style pumpkins using scraps of velvet fabric in deep, moody hues like burgundy, emerald green, burnt orange, and midnight black. Cut a circle out of the fabric, run a hand-gathering stitch around the edge, and fill the center with polyester fiberfill and a handful of dried beans for weight. Pull the thread tight to close the opening and secure it. To give the pumpkin its characteristic ribbed shape, wrap heavy embroidery floss around the body, pulling tightly to create segments. Top off your creation by hot-gluing a real, dried pumpkin stem to the center for an authentic, high-end touch.
