20. Celestial Painted Moon Phases Pumpkin

20

For a pumpkin design that feels artistic and serene, try a celestial painted moon phase design. This project works wonderfully on real or faux pumpkins painted in a deep matte navy, charcoal, or forest green. Once your base coat is dry, use a pencil to lightly sketch the phases of the moon—from waxing crescent to full moon, and back to waning crescent—in a horizontal line across the center of the pumpkin.

Using metallic gold or copper acrylic paint, fill in the sketched moon shapes. To add texture and realism, use a small sponge to dab white and silver paint onto the moons, creating the illusion of craters and lunar dust. Use a very fine paintbrush to add tiny, delicate stars and constellations around the moon phases. This elegant design is a beautiful departure from traditional jack-o’-lanterns and looks stunning styled on a porch or entryway table.
