11. Mercury Glass Style Skull Vases

11

Add a touch of vintage glam to your Halloween decor by turning cheap plastic skulls into gorgeous faux mercury glass vases. This technique is surprisingly easy and looks incredibly high-end. Start by purchasing hollow plastic skulls and cutting a opening in the top of each head. Thoroughly clean and dry the plastic. To achieve the mercury glass look, you will need looking glass spray paint and a spray bottle filled with a 50/50 mixture of water and white vinegar.

Mist the inside of the skull lightly with the water-vinegar mixture, then immediately spray a thin coat of the looking glass paint over the wet droplets. Let it sit for a minute, then gently dab the wet areas with a paper towel to lift some of the paint, creating that classic speckled, distressed mercury glass texture. Repeat this process for several layers. Once dry, place a glass jar inside the skull to hold water, and fill it with deep red roses, dark calla lilies, or dramatic branches.
