DIY Yard Cemetery Gravestones
Turn your front lawn into a terrifying, historic cemetery with custom DIY gravestones. Using sheets of rigid foam insulation, you can easily cut out classic tombstone shapes using a utility knife. To make them look like real, weathered stone, carve cracks, chips, and epitaphs into the foam using a soldering iron or a dremel tool. Coat the entire gravestone in textured gray spray paint, and use dark gray and brown acrylic washes to highlight the cracks and create the look of aged moss and dirt.
Secure them into your lawn using wooden dowels inserted into the bottom of the foam. To complete your yard cemetery, add mounds of fresh dirt in front of the headstones, scatter dry leaves, and place a few plastic skeletal hands emerging from the ground. This classic outdoor setup is a staple of Halloween decorating, transforming your yard into an immersive, spooky experience for the entire neighborhood.
