12. The Withered Rose Plantation
Taking inspiration from Southern Gothic architecture, the Withered Rose Plantation is a massive, sprawling Victorian estate characterized by grand double-columned porticos, wide balconies, and an overarching air of faded elegance and melancholy. Located in a custom dead swamp or desolate plain, this mansion tells the story of ruined wealth and persistent spirits.
Construct the sweeping front facade using white diorite or birch logs stripped of bark to create iconic, majestic columns, but cross-contaminate the blocks with mossy cobble and grey wool to simulate decay. The roof should be made of dark, contrasting deepslate tiles. Build an expansive front driveway lined with dead, weeping oak trees that curve inward, forming a dark, tunnel-like canopy leading to the front doors.
The plantation grounds should include decayed outbuildings, such as a fallen gazebo, an overgrown greenhouse, and a neglected family plot. Inside, decorate with ruined paintings (using custom maps or standard art blocks framed in dark wood), dusty chandeliers made of iron bars and white candles, and faded carpets. The juxtaposition of white, majestic classical columns with severe rot creates a chilling, visually stunning composition.
