Sahra Wagenknecht was born July 16, 1969, in Jena, East Germany. Growing up in the German Democratic Republic, she saw Germany’s reunification and Berlin Wall fall. This major event affected her politics. For his philosophy and modern German literature PhD, Wagenknecht attended Jena University.
