13. Mediterranean Dark: Textured Plaster and Terracotta

The Mediterranean Dark concept reimagines the sun-drenched, rustic aesthetic of Southern Europe through a moody, contemporary lens. The walls are finished in a hand-applied, textured black Venetian plaster, which has a subtle sheen and a rich, tactile depth that mimics old-world stone walls. To ground the design and add a touch of earthy warmth, the floors are laid with dark, reclaimed terracotta tiles in a classic herringbone or star-and-cross pattern.
The vanity is a heavy, rustic block of dark-stained oak, topped with a rough-hewn stone vessel sink. Instead of modern, shiny metals, the fixtures are crafted from tumbled brass or oil-rubbed bronze, which will develop a beautiful, natural patina over time. A large, arched mirror framed in distressed wood or dark iron echoes the classic architectural arches of Mediterranean design. This blend of rich, earthy textures and dark plaster creates a space that feels incredibly cozy, historic, and grounded.
