10. The Sleeping Tabby Striped Roll Bolster
Introduction & Aesthetic Concept
A long, cylindrical bolster cushion designed to mimic a stretched-out, sleeping ginger or silver tabby cat. Complete with textured tail, relaxed little paws sewn underneath, and subtle stripes running down the length.
What This Idea Means
Function meets playfulness. It works as an ergonomic neck roll, daybed bolster, or cozy reading support while evoking the comforting visual of a peacefully stretched sleeping pet.
How to Make It
- Yarn & Hook: Medium worsted (Aran) yarn in honey-mustard, ivory, and deep ginger-brown with a 4.5 mm hook.
- Construction: Worked in continuous spiral rounds forming an extended tube. Use spike stitches or tapestry colorwork across alternating rows to integrate natural tabby tiger stripes.
- Stitches: Seamless single crochet (sc) worked firmly to prevent stretching.
- Assembly: Slide a dense cylindrical foam roll inside, cinch the flat rear end with a gathered tail detail, and sew the sleeping cat face onto the front circular cap.
Tips & Variations
- Variation: Work in shades of silver, slate, and charcoal to replicate a classic American Shorthair grey tabby.
- Tip: Insert a removable zippered bolster inner casing so the outer crochet cover can be taken off and washed easily.
